Programme of Events 2022

The programme of events up to autumn 2022 is now in place.

If talks in church prove impossible because of Covid restrictions, they will be offered via Zoom.

Part of the programme relates to our continued hope to restore a William Morris window.

The Ghent Altarpiece

Among the decorative objects in St Martin’s is a small reproduction of the celebrated painting ‘The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb’ in St Bavo’s cathedral, Ghent, Belgium. Barbara Hodskinson explains the meanings of this masterpiece.

The Arts and Crafts Movement: its legacy today

The Arts and Crafts revival was a reaction to the way mechanization eroded traditional handicrafts in the 19th century. In the 20th century even fine art tended to discount manual skills, but a revaluation of the crafts developed all the more strongly. Ann Hyde describes how the Arts and Crafts tradition persists.
